The Youth Group of Avendale and Drumclog Church  in Strathaven, Scotland

Welcome to Avendale Yoof's website

YooF is the truly amazing and dynamic Youth Group of Avendale and Drumclog Church  in Strathaven, (Scotland).  There are about forty of us  from S1 to Uni - making us one of the biggest and most active groups around - but we're a close knit and friendly bunch who spend loads of time together - eating - doing amazing things - eating a bit more - making music -  having fun. Our Praise band has produced two CDs and we even made a feature length Movie - 'Collinder and the Missing Body' and had 200 at the World Premiere!

But best of all we have fun sharing our faith and growing as Christians.  That's really what YooF is about.  The 24/7 prayer week - the praise group - alpha - the mix - are all at the heart of what we do. Some of us are the organising team behind Powerprayze - the largest Christian Youth event in Lanarkshire.   Strathaven is pretty much in the heart of central Scotland and we have a heart for God.

We've been called YooF since about 2001 - the original and best!

So have a look through the window of the YooF RooM at what we get up to. Have a browse - enjoy the pics - get a challenge from what we do - solve the murder mysteries - watch the video shorts - follow the links to the other great things that are happening in our town - but better still get in touch.  We'd love to hear from you. You can email us at yoof@live.co.uk.

Watch out ---We have a members only bit for those who really are members of YooF ..... you'll have to join to get in there!

Thought for this week - courtesy of Your YooF leadership team....

If Jesus is Divine we must be Dibranches ...................

Stay joined to me, and I will stay joined to you. Just as a branch cannot produce fruit unless it stays joined to the vine, you cannot produce fruit unless you stay joined to me. I am the vine, and you are the branches. If you stay joined to me, and I stay joined to you, then you will produce lots of fruit. But you cannot do anything without me. If you don't stay joined to me, you will be thrown away. You will be like dry branches that are gathered up and burned in a fire. John 15 :4-6

AS we have been seeing these weeks in the Parables - Jesus gives us these word pictures and stories that help us understand something about him if we really think hard about them. So what is he saying here?  Vines are wonderful, huge living bushes that produce fruit if they are well nourished and well tended.  Our challenge this week was to realise that just as a tree doesn't get nourishment from sitting on the soil doing nothing - we have to do something to get our spiritual nourishment from God.  A tree has to work its roots into the ground. It works at growing.

Jesus tells us here that we have to remain really close to him and understand what he says and what he wants us to do to be able to produce fruit - and as we saw the fruit are all those really 'Godly' things like Love and peace and patience....(see Galatians 5:22 for some more).

So our challenge is to keep reading, keep thinking, keep talking to God. Work at it and remain close to God.

See you Sunday @ YooF
