The Youth Group of Avendale and Drumclog Church  in Strathaven, Scotland

Welcome to Avendale Yoof's website

YooF is the truly amazing and dynamic Youth Group of Avendale and Drumclog Church  in Strathaven, (Scotland).  There are about forty of us  from S1 to Uni - making us one of the biggest and most active groups around - but we're a close knit and friendly bunch who spend loads of time together - eating - doing amazing things - eating a bit more - making music -  having fun. Our Praise band has produced two CDs and we even made a feature length Movie - 'Collinder and the Missing Body' and had 200 at the World Premiere!

But best of all we have fun sharing our faith and growing as Christians.  That's really what YooF is about.  The 24/7 prayer week - the praise group - alpha - the mix - are all at the heart of what we do. Some of us are the organising team behind Powerprayze - the largest Christian Youth event in Lanarkshire.   Strathaven is pretty much in the heart of central Scotland and we have a heart for God.

We've been called YooF since about 2001 - the original and best!

So have a look through the window of the YooF RooM at what we get up to. Have a browse - enjoy the pics - get a challenge from what we do - solve the murder mysteries - watch the video shorts - follow the links to the other great things that are happening in our town - but better still get in touch.  We'd love to hear from you. You can email us at yoof@live.co.uk.

Watch out ---We have a members only bit for those who really are members of YooF ..... you'll have to join to get in there!

Preparing for What God Wants You to Do

Because you have these blessings, do your best to add these things to your lives: to your faith, add goodness; and to your goodness, add knowledge;and to your knowledge, add self-control; and to your self-control, add patience; and to your patience, add service for God; and to your service for God, add kindness for your brothers and sisters in Christ; and to this kindness, add love.If all these things are in you and are growing, they will help you to be useful and productive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But anyone who does not have these things cannot see clearly. He is blind and has forgotten that he was made clean from his past sins.  2 PETER 1 (5-9)

This Sunday at YOOF we stared with the lifeboat exercise.  What would be the most useful things to carry in a lifeboat adrift in the sea? ...and the winner was - not the chocolate, not even the water or shark repellant. It was ....a mirror, (so tha that the vain could do their hair but the practical could signal to passing ships, aircraft ...and trans Atlantic swimmers).  But what would be the most useful things to carry in our lives so that we can fulfil Jesus command to go out into the World and spread the word about him? He said his followers were to go to Jerusalem (those near at hand), Judea (the country at large), Samarai (those we might not like) and the ends ofthe Earth (which is pretty much as far as the end of the Earth....before you fall off or get back to where you started!). We thought about being prepared to share our faith, then and focussed on this passage thinking about developing these attributes in our lives so that, as it says at the end of the passage, we will be  "useful and productive".

Our challenge this week is to reread and reflect on this challenge and work out how we can add these things to our lives.

See you Sunday @ YooF
