The Youth Group of Avendale and Drumclog Church  in Strathaven, Scotland

Welcome to Avendale Yoof's website

YooF is the truly amazing and dynamic Youth Group of Avendale and Drumclog Church  in Strathaven, (Scotland).  There are about forty of us  from S1 to Uni - making us one of the biggest and most active groups around - but we're a close knit and friendly bunch who spend loads of time together - eating - doing amazing things - eating a bit more - making music -  having fun. Our Praise band has produced two CDs and we even made a feature length Movie - 'Collinder and the Missing Body' and had 200 at the World Premiere!

But best of all we have fun sharing our faith and growing as Christians.  That's really what YooF is about.  The 24/7 prayer week - the praise group - alpha - the mix - are all at the heart of what we do. Some of us are the organising team behind Powerprayze - the largest Christian Youth event in Lanarkshire.   Strathaven is pretty much in the heart of central Scotland and we have a heart for God.

We've been called YooF since about 2001 - the original and best!

So have a look through the window of the YooF RooM at what we get up to. Have a browse - enjoy the pics - get a challenge from what we do - solve the murder mysteries - watch the video shorts - follow the links to the other great things that are happening in our town - but better still get in touch.  We'd love to hear from you. You can email us at yoof@live.co.uk.

Watch out ---We have a members only bit for those who really are members of YooF ..... you'll have to join to get in there!

Thought for this week - courtesy of Your YooF leadership team....                          Being of Use to God

"In a well-furnished kitchen there are not only crystal goblets and silver platters, but waste cans and compost buckets—some containers used to serve fine meals, others to take out the garbage. Become the kind of container God can use to present any and every kind of gift to his guests for their blessing."  2 Timothy 2 (20-21) The Message

This week we looked at 'being useful to God' and thought about this young man Timothy who was charged with looking after a church in Lystra.  It was a great challenge and Paul wanted to encourage him.

We focussed on the fact that - God does not have to use us - he can get by pretty neatly without us. But when he does use us it blesses us, strengthens our faith, builds us up. But the reading above is about preparing ourselves and making sure that we can be useful.  Are we available for God (or do we fill our time up with lots of things that mean we're not available).  Is our lifestyle good and pleasing in God's sight?  (You wouldn't trust a cheat with a secret - would you?)

So the question is - are you making yourself available, clean and ready to be used by God - for whatever he wants you to do.  It's a challenge.  Read the rest of 2 Timothy this week and make a note of all the challenges to your life there are in it.

See you Sunday @ YooF

And here's some useless things we looked at!
